Josh Mabra

Dr. Joshua Mabra, a resident of Yellow Springs, has been playing tennis for 28 years, and has 18 years of coaching experience.  He comes from an avid tennis family, and at a young age he began playing tennis competitively at the local and national level.  While in high school, he was voted All-State Ohio 3 years in a row (1999-2001), and twice he placed 3rd place in the state doubles tournament with his older brother, Aaron Mabra.  After high school, Joshua played tennis at Kenyon College, playing both singles and doubles on a team that achieved the rank of 11th in the nation.  As a graduate student, Joshua competed internationally, and was captain of the tennis team for the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and helped lead his team to winning a British Universities Sports Association National Championship in 2007.

Joshua began coaching at age 15 with National Trail, Parks and Recreation Division (NTPRD) in Springfield Ohio.  He coached in the Springfield parks throughout high school and college, eventually becoming the Head Tennis Pro for both Snyder and Reid Parks.  Joshua’s coaching career extends beyond Ohio, having coached at the prestigious Armonk Tennis Club in Armonk, NY as well as at Sandy Hollow Tennis Club in South Hampton, NY.  Most recently, Joshua coached at Midtown Athletic Club in Chicago, one of the world’s largest indoor tennis facilities, that is at the forefront of modern coaching techniques.

Joshua is currently an Assistant Professor of Arabic at Wright State, and he is passionate about spreading his love of tennis, a sport that has been instrumental to his life.   He is dedicated to reinvigorating the game of tennis in the Yellow Springs area, and hopes to share his knowledge of the game with players of all ages and skill levels.   He firmly believes that tennis is a game for everyone, one that can offer a lifetime of joy, fitness and community.
